On 13 August, our Epilepsy Free State family was proud to celebrate one of our own — John Simpson — as he received the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow Award from Rotary. This recognition is a true testament to John’s unwavering commitment, compassion, and tireless efforts to make a difference in the lives of people living with epilepsy.

A Man on a Mission

If you’ve ever been in the town of Parys, chances are you’ve seen John. Day after day, he walks the streets with a warm smile and a determined spirit, collecting donations for Epilepsy Free State. He doesn’t just ask for support — he inspires it. His friendly conversations, genuine interest in people’s lives, and steadfast belief in the work we do have turned many casual passers-by into passionate supporters.

John reminds us that giving is not about how much we have, but how much we care. Through rain or sunshine, his presence on the streets of Parys is a daily reminder that kindness is a choice we can make every single day.

About the Paul Harris Fellow Award

The Paul Harris Fellow Award is one of the highest honors bestowed by Rotary International. Named after Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary, it recognizes individuals whose contributions and service demonstrate a shared commitment to building a better world. Recipients are people who go above and beyond, embodying the spirit of “Service Above Self.”

Why This Matters

For us at Epilepsy Free State, John’s recognition is more than an award — it’s a celebration of community spirit. It highlights that change doesn’t always come from grand gestures, but often from consistent, everyday acts of kindness. John’s work not only helps raise essential funds but also raises awareness, reduces stigma, and opens conversations about epilepsy in our community.

We are deeply grateful for John Simpson — for his footsteps on the streets of Parys, for his unwavering heart, and for proving that one person’s dedication can ripple out to touch countless lives. Congratulations, John!
