Empowering Lives: Supporting Individuals with Disabilities
Providing care, resources, and opportunities for people with epilepsy and disabilities to live with dignity and independence.
Epilepsy Free State North West Branch has been serving the community since 1984, originally established as a Residential Care Centre for individuals with epilepsy. Over the years, advancements in epilepsy treatment reduced the demand for specialized residential care, allowing us to expand our services to support all persons with disabilities.
We provide care and assistance for individuals with epilepsy, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, psychiatric disabilities, and those with conditions such as Down syndrome and speech impairments. In 2019, we were officially registered by the Department of Health as a Mental Health Facility.
In 2003, we shifted our focus from residential care to a broader community development approach. This transformation allowed us to make a greater impact by engaging in projects such as food gardens and economic empowerment programs. Through these initiatives, we help individuals develop skills and access opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
In 2009, our services expanded further to include Primary Health Care, focusing on HIV/AIDS, TB, and Home-Based Care. While Home-Based Care has since been phased out, we continue to run a SASOL-funded project addressing TB and HIV/AIDS.
We are an independent non-profit organization with our own Board of Management. While we operate under the guidelines and policies of Epilepsy South Africa, we are responsible for securing our own funding through donations, fundraising events, and social enterprise initiatives.
- Support Us – Financial contributions are always welcome, but we also accept donations of clothing, household goods, food, stationery, books, and other essential items. Every donation helps improve the lives of those we serve.
- Shop With Us – We have established businesses that generate income to support persons with disabilities. Hire our shuttle buses, rent jumping castles, or shop at The Dome Business Hub and Parys River Clay to support our cause.
- Volunteer – Volunteering is a rewarding way to make a difference while connecting with inspiring individuals. Contact us to learn about current opportunities and how you can get involved.
Together, we can create a more inclusive and supportive community for all. Join us in making a lasting impact!
